Crystal Palace travels to Molineux this Friday where they face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Both the teams occupy the same points while due to superior goal difference, Crystal Palace sit at 8th position while Wolves occupy the 9th. Being just 3 points behind the top, Wolves and Palace will want to win this fixture to move above in the table. Will Wolves win their second home game of the season or can we see Crystal Palace continue their good away form? All are discussed below in our Wolves vs Crystal Palace Preview.
Wolves vs Crystal Palace Preview:
The campaign might have started in a stable fashion for Wolves but Nuno Espirito’s side have put less than impressive performances from what they have been accustomed to. The win against in-form Leeds United showcased the ability that exists within the Wolves squad but on the corresponding game week, they drew against Newcastle United at Molineux highlighting inconsistencies of this Wolves side.
Nuno Espirito will be aware of increased competitiveness within the League and with next, some fixtures against the big six, winning this match is important for Wolves European ambition this season.
Crystal Palace on the other hand have started the campaign in an amazing fashion with already acquiring 3 wins which included a hammering of Manchester United at Old Trafford. They have won 2 out of their 3 away games this season and Roy Hodgson will push on his side to get their 3rd away victory this season.
Wilfred Zaha has already scored 5 goals this season and Roy Hodgson will again rely on him to get Palace over the finishing line against Wolves this Friday. Roy Hodgson always sets a 40 point mark for his side to cross for ensuring his side’s safety and will want to use the current form to get another much-needed victory.
Head To Head:
Wins for Crystal Palace: 21
Games Drawn: 19
Wins for Wolves: 27
Crystal Palace v Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Crystal Palace 0-2
Crystal Palace v Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Crystal Palace 2-0
Wilfred Zaha has already crossed his goal tally of last season and will look to break his highest goalscoring season which he had in the 2018/2019 season where he accumulated 10 goals for Crystal Palace.
Raul Jiminez has so far not scored a goal for Wolves when they have encountered Crystal Palace since their promotion in 2018.
Wolves News: Marcal has returned to training and was part of the squad against Newcastle United but his match fitness for this match remains a doubt while Johnny remains a long-term absentee for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Crystal Palace News: Gary Cahill fitness remains a doubt after the injury he suffered against Brighton. Roy Hodgson did receive a boost with the return of Patrick Van Aanholt, Jeffrey Schlupp in the squad for the Fulham game while James Tomkins has returned to the training after a long injury lay off.
Predicted Line Up:
Wolves Predicted 11: R Patricio W Boly C Coady M Kilman N Semedo R Neves L Dendoncker R Saiss P Neto A Traore R Jiminez
Wolves will look to keep the same line up that faced off against Newcastle United with the only change being the return of Adama Traore instead of Podence in my opinion. Nuno will know that Crystal Palace will not take the game towards them and will try to use Traore to exploit the spaces left by the Palace defenders.
Palace Predicted 11: V Guaita N Clyne C Kouyate S Dann T Mitchell L Milivojevic J Reidewald A Townsend J Schlupp W Zaha M Batshuayi
Palace will keep the same line up that defeated Fulham in my opinion. The only change that Roy Hodgson might make is the inclusion of Gary Cahill if he is deemed match fit for this encounter.
A victory for any of these teams might put one of them as joint first in the table along with Liverpool and Everton. It is an important match where both the managers will love nothing else than 3 points. Crystal Palace have only kept one clean sheet this season and will be heavily tested by Jiminez and Traore while Palace will rely on Zaha to head their attacking flair in this encounter.
With both managers putting a bigger emphasis on the defensive qualities of the game, a tough and close match beckons upon us. Wolves have always an extra defensive body at the back due to their 3-4-3 formation while Crystal Palace uses a 4-4-2 formation with an energetic midfield protecting the defense.
Therefore, in my opinion, This will be a tight match where one goal might be enough to run out as winners and Wolves will be the team that will emerge as victorious. Traore, Neto, and Jiminez will cause major problems for the Palace defense and will get that crucial goal which will put Wolves as joint toppers in the League until Saturday.
