Premier League resumes this weekend after the closure of the International Break. We witnessed a rollercoaster first four Gameweeks and the next phase looks to be heading in a more intriguing outcome.
In the first four rounds, out of a total of 40 fixtures, only 16 fixtures have seen the home side emerge victorious. Last Gameweek, a total of 41 goals were scored where we oversaw some results that would be remembered for decades. What has Gameweek 5 in store for all of us?
Below is our Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions with 2 amazing facts and previews.
Saturday (17th October 2020):
Everton vs Liverpool (12:30 UK Time):
Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions
Everton sit at top of the League, 3 points ahead of Liverpool. A situation no one could have predicted at the Season commencement. They would want to continue the amazing start while Liverpool would want to respond after a 7-2 humbling by Aston Villa previous Gameweek.
Everton’s last win against their neighboring rivals stretches back to 2010.
For the last 10 years, they have encountered 23 times in all competitions where there have been 11 draws and 12 wins by Liverpool.
This does not give a good reading for Everton fans, Can Everton finally upsurge over their Neighbouring Rivals and send a major statement of intent or Liverpool will keep dominating their Merseyside rivals?
Prediction: In my Opinion, Liverpool will continue their unbeaten record against Everton but will not be able to win against this strong Everton side. Another draw looks to be on the cards between the two sides. Carlo Ancelloti has always opted for a solid defensive structure when colliding against the big sides and will look to pounce on Liverpool’s mistake in the encounter. Liverpool on the other hand might change their approach after the 7-2 humbling by Aston Villa away from home. Liverpool have conceded 11 goals this season and will need to be defensively strong to keep players like Dominic Calvert Lewin and James Rodriguez away from scoring.
Therefore, in my opinion, both sides will cancel out each other and this fixture will end in a 1-1 draw which will be a good result for both sides.
Chelsea vs Southampton (15:00 UK Time):
Both teams come into this fixture on the back of morale-boosting victories in the last game week. Southampton have won their last two matches in the League while Chelsea broke their two-match winless streak by hammering Crystal Palace 4-0 at Stamford Bridge last game week.
Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions
The picture above will highlight the threat Southampton provide when they face off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Southampton is unbeaten in their last 2 encounters at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have only found the net once in their last three encounters against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
This does not give a good reading for optimistic Chelsea fans but they will be overjoyed with the returns of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. Both these players will help Chelsea break down sturdy and resolute defences.
Prediction: Southampton are known to play a high pressing style under the stewardship of Ralph Hassenhutl but after the drubbing they received against Tottenham Hotspur, they will be expected to play in a counter-attacking manner against this attack-heavy Chelsea side. With Frank Lampard finally having a fit squad to choose from, a quartet of Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz would be a joy to watch.
The last time these sides met, Chelsea had Tammy Abraham, Willian, and Hudson Odoi as their attacking options with Pedro, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic on the bench. But now, Chelsea have one of the best in-depth attack in the League and will have enough to overcome Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Therefore, in my opinion, Chelsea will emerge as 3-1 winners in this encounters with their attacking quality emerging them victorious in a hard-fought encounter.
Manchester City vs Arsenal (17:30 UK Time):
Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions
Two major sides will collide against one another this Gameweek in what promises to be an enthralling encounter.
Manchester City have played three matches so far this season from which they acquired a solitary victory while drawing and losing the other two respectively. The loss they did acquire was nothing short of astonishing. They were thrashed 5-2 by Leicester City at their own stadium. Since then, Ruben Dias has been acquired and will be expected to improve the organization and structure of leaky City’s defense.
Arsenal on the other hand have played four games where they acquired three important victorious while their only loss was inflicted by defending champions Liverpool who hammered Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield. Thomas Partey was signed by Arsenal on the deadline day and will be expected to shore the Arsenal midfield. Can Partey be the key for Arsenal to get results away from home? we shall find out as the season pans out.
Putting Fa Cup record aside, Arsenal’s last Victory against Manchester City stretches back to 2015 where they beat City both home and away in a calendar year.
Kevin De Bruyne has scored 3 goals in his last 2 against Arsenal.
The last two encounters in the League between the two sides had ended in a 3-0 win to Manchester City.
Prediction: Mikel Arteta has transformed Arsenal into a defensively organized side. With the inclusion of Thomas Partey and Gabriel, Arsenal have improved their defensive side more this season. Mikel Arteta approaches the bigger games in a conservative manner and the same shall be the norm this Saturday.
Pep Guardiola would have been worried after the hammering his side faced in transition against Leicester City but Ruben Dias will be expected to strengthen the City’s struggling defense.
It will be a tight game with City controlling majority of the possession but unlike their last encounter in the Fa Cup, Manchester City will break Arsenal’s resolute defense down and centre back partnership of Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte will not leak too many goals.
Therefore, in my opinion, Manchester City will win this encounter 2-0 and keep a much needed clean sheet.
Newcastle vs Manchester United (20:00 UK Time):
Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions
Both teams arrive in the next Gameweek with contrasting fortunes.
Newcastle have started their season in a good manner by acquiring 2 wins and a draw from their first four fixtures. New Signing Callum Wilson has looked in amazing touch with scoring 4 goals in the first four encounters.
Manchester United on the other hand were brushed aside 6-1 by a rampant Tottenham side last game week. Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani could prove to be great additions for the struggling United side but it will be tough to see Cavani involved in this fixture due to lack of match fitness. With only three points from possible 9, Manchester United have to emerge victorious against Newcastle this weekend or troubles will only keep brewing more for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side.
Manchester United have only won one of their last 3 matches at St James Park while losing in two of those matches.
On good news for United fans, Marcus Rashford loves playing against Newcastle United and has scored on two occasions in the past three encounters between the sides.
Prediction: Ole Gunnar Solksjaer needs a victory to uplift the morale in the dressing room but Newcastle will not be an easy opponent for the United side to deal with. Allan Saint Maximin and Callum Wilson will cause major problems for a leaky United defence which has already conceded 11 goals in their first three encounters. Even after all the shortcomings and downfall, Manchester United still have players like Donny Van de Beek, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, and Rashford to count upon and their attack might just have enough to upsurge this Newcastle side.
Newcastle have conceded 4 goals in their last two encounters at St James Park and in my opinion, a couple more will be conceded by them against a struggling United side. Therefore, in my opinion, Manchester United will have too much firepower for this Newcastle defense to handle and will emerge as 2-1 winners providing much-needed relief to under-pressure Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.
Sunday (18th October 2020):
Sheffield United vs Fulham (12:00 UK Time):

Two sides that have had identical disastrous start so far this season. Both have lost their first four games this season and will view this fixture as a must-win. Concerns for both sides have been the polar opposite.
Fulham have struggled in all the departments but the biggest concern for Scott Parker’s side has been their leaky defense.
Sheffield on the other hand, have conceded only 6 goals in their first four games but they have only a solitary goal to show for their attacking exploits.
Their Last meetings have been in the Championship where Fulham won the last three fixtures between the two sides scoring a whopping 11 goals in those 3 encounters.
Prediction: It is difficult to fathom expecting major goals between two struggling sides. Sheffield cannot score a goal nowadays while Fulham’s defence is majorly unorganized and are not capable of keeping a clean sheet.
Sheffield United are defensively a very solid side and that might be the difference between the two struggling sides. A win can change their whole campaign in a better direction and in my opinion, Sheffield will celebrate a much-needed victory this Sunday.
Fulham is incapable when it comes to defending abilities and will allow Sheffield United to score much-needed goals in this encounter. Therefore, I believe Sheffield will clinch a 2-1 victory this Sunday piling more misery on Scott Parker’s side.
Crystal Palace vs Brighton (14:00 UK Time):
Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions
Crystal Palace have acquired two victories from their first four fixtures while losing the other two. The victory at Old Trafford showcased the ability this side possesses and their attack will cause major problems for many defenses. Palace have played an injury-riddled squad so far this season but with the international break might have given Roy Hodgson much needed relief to get his squad back fit and running after an injury crisis this season.
Brighton on the other hand have only won once while losing the other three fixtures so far this season. They have played some exquisite stuff which unfortunately for them hasn’t reaped the required reward. Manchester United and Chelsea were pegged down by Brighton for a long time in their respective encounters but clinical finishing denied Brighton deserved points from the two games. Tariq Lamptey and Neil Maupay have started the season in an amazing manner and Graham Potter will rely on both of them to get some wins behind their efforts.
Since Promotion, Brighton have won 2 out of their 6 encounters against Crystal Palace while the other four ended in two victories for Palace along with 2 stalemates.
Prediction: Graham Potter’s Brighton side are always defensively well set along with all the attacking qualities they comprise, they normally play in a back 3 and will try to contain Zaha and Eze to defuse the threat Palace will provide.
Roy Hodgson on the other hand will be majorly impressed by his side defensive performance so far this season. They have conceded 7 goals so far this season but 4 of them were conceded in a single game against a quality Chelsea side.
Tariq Lamptey against Tyrick Mitchell will be the battle that might play a big part in the game and shutting Lamptey’s threat might just win the game for Crystal Palace.
With the defensive solidity and experience Palace backline comprise, they just might contain Brighton’s attacking while Palace might score some goals at the other end against a leaky Brighton defense this season.
Therefore, in my opinion, Crystal Palace will edge Brighton 2-1 in this entertaining encounter.
Tottenham vs West Ham (16:30 UK Time):
Premier League Gameweek 5 Predictions
London Derby that has never ceased to amaze. Both teams come into this encounter with great results in the previous game week.
Tottenham have 2 wins so far in this campaign while drawing and losing the other two fixtures. Those Two victories oversaw Tottenham score a whopping 11 goals in just 2 games while conceding 3 goals in the process. Son Heung Min has scored 6 goals in the league this season while Harry Kane has also netted three times this season. With Gareth Bale still not available and Steven Bergwijn occupying a place on the bench, Tottenham comprises a fearsome attack for defenses to handle this season.
West Ham on the other hand comes into this game week on the back of hammering two sides that are assumed to be the next sides that could break the top 6 dominance. Wolves and Leicester City were dispatched 4-0 and 3-0 respectively by a motivated West Ham side. Everything seemed toxic with the Diangana sale and the lack of new signings but everything has transformed in the space of just two weeks for West Ham United. They have nothing to fear and will relish the London Derby this weekend.
West ham have only 2 wins in their last 6 encounters against Tottenham Hotspur.
Harry Kane has netted 4 goals in his last 6 encounters against West Ham United.
Prediction: West Ham will set up to not concede and try to counter Tottenham’s lapse in concentration. Declan Rice and Thomas Soucek will sit in front of the defense and will make it hard for Tottenham to find spaces between the lines.
Jose Mourinho will know that West Ham won’t give them as much space as what Manchester United offered them which his side fully pounced upon.
It could be a tight game with both sides defensively well set up and both managers known to prioritize defensive organization over the attack.
Therefore, in my opinion, this will be a very tight encounter but Tottenham’s attacking quality will just have too much for the West Ham defense to handle. I believe Tottenham will emerge as 2-0 winners in this fierce encounter.
Leicester City vs Aston Villa:

Leicester City’s amazing start to the season was brought to an abrupt end by West Ham United in the last game week. Leicester sit on 9 points from their four games and will want to get a victory against Aston Villa to move on after the drubbing they received at the hands of West Ham United.
Aston Villa on the other hand pulled a result of a lifetime in the previous game week. They defeated the defending Champions Liverpool 7-2 where it could have been more if they had their finishing boots present on the day. Aston Villa have had a great transfer window and the start to their season illustrates their progress from the relegation battle last season. They have won all their three encounters and will look to make it four on the trot against Leicester City.
Leicester City have always enjoyed coming up against Aston Villa against whom they have racked up 13 goals in their last 5 encounters.
Jamie Vardy has scored on 5 occasions in his last 4 matches against Aston Villa.
Prediction: Ollie Watkins, Ross Barkley, and Jack Grealish provide great impetus to Aston Villa’s attacking structure and could cause Leicester some major problems. Leicester, on the other hand, will count upon Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes, and James Maddison to break down Aston Villa’s defensive shape. With Leicester missing Wilfred Ndidi for the game, Aston Villa will try to counter this weakness and take the game to Leicester City.
Leicester have already conceded 7 goals this season and it will only increase this Gameweek. In my Opinion, Aston Villa will come out of The King Power Stadium with a 2-2 draw which will continue their good start but will give lots of defensive headaches for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
Monday (19th October 2020):
West Brom vs Burnley (17:30 UK Time):

Both sides come into this Gameweek with poor form. Burnley have lost all their three fixtures while West Brom have a solitary point from their first four fixtures which they earned against Chelsea in an enthralling 3-3 draw at the Hawthorns.
Burnley have only one victory in their last 6 encounters against West Bromwich Albion.
Prediction: Victory is a must for both sides and they will be targetting this encounter for the needed three points. Many people will anticipate this encounter to result in a dull goalless draw but to everyone’s astonishment, the last goalless draw between the two sides stretches back to 1968. Slaven Bilic’s West Brom side will try to take the game to their opponents while Burnley will try to contain their attack and pounce on mistakes by the other side.
With the experience Burnley have to survive in this unforgiving League, they will approach this game in a better manner, and therefore, in my opinion, Burnley will overcome West Brom 2-1 in this important encounter.
Leeds United vs Wolves (20:00 UK Time):

Leeds United have been one of the best sides for neutrals to watch. Marcelo Bielsa is one of the most highly regarded coaches in the football community and he has only increased his reputation with his team’s performance this season. Leeds have scored 9 goals so far this season but their Achilles heels have been the defensive side of the game which has seen them conceding 8 goals this season. Their performance against Manchester City was fabulous where defensively as well as attackingly, Leeds looked a lot better in every aspect and will want to continue it in the season ahead.
Wolves on the other hand have had a disappointing start to their season. They have won two fixtures while being battered in the other two encounters. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side got past Sheffield and Fulham but they had a horrific first half against Manchester City while what followed against West Ham was atrocious for Wolves fans to fathom. West ham defeated them 4-0 which came just after a Carabao cup exit at the hands of Championship side Stoke City. Wolves need to get better if they want to secure a Europa League spot and this fixture could be the one to start a string of victories for this Wolves side.
Their previous encounters took place in the Championship where Wolves have had an upper hand in the last three encounters. Wolves have won the last three encounters between the sides with an aggregate of 8-1.
At Elland Road, Wolves have been on the victorious side on 3 out of the last 4 occasions with Leeds winning one of those.
Prediction: It will be an intriguing battle between two good tactical sides. Both coaches have been at the club for a long time and stability has helped both the clubs to grow at enormous heights.
Marcelo Bielsa will be aware of Wolves counter-attacking threat with players like Raul Jiminez and Adama Traore and will want his side to produce a better defensive display. Wolves have always loved to play attacking sides where they soaked up the pressure and countered with immense pace on the transitions. Nuno’s side will be expected to do the same this game week.
Even after two abysmal performances, Wolves have still acquired two clean sheets this season and this match will be tightly fought between the defence of both the side. Leeds are a very well drilled side and they did improve defensively in the last game week which will boost their chances in this game. Therefore, in my opinion, this fixture will end in a draw with both the sides cancelling each other out in a highly engrossing 1-1 draw.
